KinderMourn recognizes that many of our community’s most vulnerable youth are unable to attend support groups at the KinderMourn Home. In 1994, due to this reality and the growing number of children impacted by grief and loss, the agency established Helping The Hurt, an outreach program providing support and hope to children and teens.
Helping The Hurt offers on-site grief support for elementary, middle, and high school youth in area schools. Helping The Hurt support groups are presently provided in Charlotte Mecklenburg and Fort Mill public school systems.
If you would like information about establishing a Helping The Hurt program in a CMS or Fort Mill school, please contact Brooke Yates Arias.

Note to school counselors: Support groups must be confirmed before the forms/letters below are distributed to students' guardians. Please do not distribute permission forms until a confirmation is obtained.

For over 31 years, our Helping the Hurt outreach program and grief support groups at KinderMourn have supported countless youth navigating grief and loss in our community at no cost.
KinderMourn relies entirely on funding and donations from foundations and local organizations to offer this much-needed program to families in our community. We are grateful to these 2026 supporters who continue to make our Helping the Hurt outreach program possible!
