March 23: KinderMourn is continuing to monitor the impact of COVID-19 on our community. We, like many other service-organizations, are modifying our methods of care to ensure that those needing grief support get help during this difficult time.

As of March 30, we will transfer all current programming to a telehealth model to meet the needs of our families. Our clinicians will be available Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

Please call the KinderMourn office at 704.376.2580 to discuss how we can be of support to you and your family.

March 16: Dear KinderMourn family,

The safety, health and well-being of the families we serve are our highest priority. In light of recent developments regarding COVID-19 – including school closings and recommendations made by the CDC and Mecklenburg County – we want to share our current plans with you.

Beginning today, KinderMourn will cancel all groups and counseling sessions through Friday, March 27th. We are hopeful to resume programs on Monday, March 30th but will continue to monitor this fluid situation and update the schedule if needed.

During this time, the KinderMourn office will be staffed with counseling professionals should you need our support. Staff will be available via phone and email during the following hours:

  • Monday – Thursday: 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.Friday: 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Grieving children and teens may be particularly vulnerable to anxiety and worry during times of uncertainty. Here are tips from the National Association of School Psychologists on talking to children about coronavirus/COVID-19. We will be providing online activities for Grieving Children and Teens that can be used at home and with families until we are able to resume our programs.

Regarding our upcoming Hope Floats Duck Race on May 3, we are disappointed to announce that we have decided to postpone it until a later date. But the ducks will race - we will share the new date as soon as it is finalized! Please remember that our Hope Floats Duck Race provides 27% of KinderMourn’s annual budget. Continue to establish teams and adopt ducks at,, and help us keep hope afloat during these uncertain times. We continue to count on your support.

We are so grateful for each and every one of you. For 42 years, our community has supported KinderMourn and our mission to provide a safe haven for bereaved families to find hope and healing. What we have learned during those 42 years is that the power of holding a safe space for difficult experiences can bring about hope even in the darkest of times. We are committed to continuing to support our families and community through these uncertain weeks. Please know that KinderMourn is just a phone call away.Thank you for your ongoing support of KinderMourn. If you have any questions or concerns, we can be reached at 704-376-2580 or (Executive Director) or (KM Board Chair).

Most sincerely,
