"The Jarretts are a typical American family. Calvin is a determined, successful provider and Beth an organized, efficient wife. They had two sons, Conrad and Buck, but now they have one (living child). In the memorable, moving novel, Judith Guest takes the reader into their lives to share their misunderstandings, pain...and ultimate healing. The highly praised movie version of the book, directed by Robert Redford, won the Oscar for Best Picture in 1980." Ken Garfield is Director of Communications at Myers Park United Methodist Church, overseeing a magazine, newsletter, website and other ways in which the 5,000-member congregation tells its story. For nearly 16 years, he has been writing about faith and values in the Charlotte area, having served for 12 years as The Charlotte (N.C.) Observer's religion editor. Since leaving the newspaper, he has written for Charlotte Magazine, The New York Times, Christian Century Magazine, Religion News Service and more. He has published three books, including a collection of columns celebrating faith in the Carolinas. |
